Vegas, Baby!

February 12th, 2008 • Posted in Travel

We celebrated Michele’s birthday in Las Vegas last weekend. It’s a milestone birthday, so of course we had to do something special. I’ve been looking forward to getting away, not only to spend time with friends but also to get away from work a couple of days.
I’m not really much of a gambler, but it […]

Work and Play

Last week, my department did an appreciation lunch at the Thomas Fogarty Winery in Woodside. My first thought was, there’s a winery in Woodside? It’s actually quite a lovely location with gorgeous views of the entire Bay Area. We lucked out and had beautiful sunny weather and could see from San Francisco to the South […]

Boston

I got to do some other things in Boston besides tech talk at the Enterprise 2.0 Conference. My co-worker Vinson is quite the beer aficionado, so he brought us to this great place called The Publick House. It seems like there are over a hundred types of beer here. They have quite a few […]

On The Bayou

We just got back from a week in Louisiana visiting Pip’s mom, Jan. Pip grew up in a small town called Cut Off which is about an hour’s drive southwest of New Orleans. In the aftermath of Katrina, Cut Off fared very well. It’s in the only costal parish that was not flooded.
The highlight […]

Hawaii - Day 10 - Our Last Day

October 8th, 2006 • Posted in Travel

Our last day on the island. I woke up early and decided to have one last long walk. I really enjoyed my walk yesterday, so I decided to go back to the beach I had discovered. It was a beautiful sunny morning. There were more people surfing today, but the beaches were still pretty empty. […]

Hawaii - Day 9 - Pearl Harbor & Chinatown

Q: What red and bumpy and brown all over?
A: Joel!
When we were at Manoa Falls yesterday, I must have gotten a few bug bites. When I woke up this morning, I had large bumps on my arms and legs. Bugs love me for some reason.
In the morning, I went for a long walk. I walked […]

Hawaii - Day 8 - Hanauma Bay & Manoa Falls

October 5th, 2006 • Posted in Travel

We went to Hanauma Bay to snuba. Snuba is a mixture of snorkeling and scuba diving. You get air from a tank so you can go deeper than if you were snorkeling, but you can’t go as deep as you do with scuba. It seemed like the perfect sport for a novice swimmer like myself.
Kurtis, […]

Hawaii - Day 7 - Polynesian Cultural Center

October 4th, 2006 • Posted in Travel

Pip, Kurtis, Jaren and I booked a tour to the Polynesian Cultural Center in the northern part of Oahu. We wanted to experience a luau and heard about the attractions at the PCC, so we thought we’d give it a go. It was an all-day package with transportation, so we were picked up by bus […]

Hawaii - Day 6 - A Reunion

October 3rd, 2006 • Posted in Travel

Because we stayed up so late, I was finally able to sleep in. No morning walk today. Instead, when we finally got up Pip and I headed over to the nearby park near Queen’s Beach to lay out. The shade of a palm tree, a gentle breeze and the sound of crashing waves was exactly […]

Hawaii - Day 5 - A Drive Around Oahu

October 2nd, 2006 • Posted in Travel

I started the day with a walk on the beach with my iPod. I have a playlist with a few downtempo albums — Beat Pharmacy, Zero 7, Air, a Thievery Corporation compilation and the Garden State soundtrack. I hit random and started to walk barefoot. Although it’s just sunrise, the air and water were warm […]
